Watch: Phil does all kinds of Phil things in Rd. 3

Updated 5:20 p.m. ET

Phil Mickelson appeared to reach peak Phil Mickelson on the opening hole Saturday. Then he took it up a few notches.

Starting the day two off the lead, he attempted to drive the first green with a faded fairway wood, but hit a double-cross hook 52 yards long and right of the green.

For his second shot, Mickelson pulled off a towering flop shot over a tree blocking his path to the green that came up just short of the putting surface:

And from off the green, he made sure he wouldn’t need a fourth shot – or a putter:

On the 10th hole, Mickelson received a free drop after it was determined a fan picked up his ball. After taking his drop, he played this shot over the trees and onto the green, where he then two-putted for par:

Two holes later, he successfully obtained free relief from the woods when he argued that a sprinkler head in the trees obstructed his stance:

Two holes after that at 14, Mickelson flared his drive well left, smacked a tree with his second shot, hit his third shot (played from the opposite side of the hole after the ball caromed off the tree) to the back fringe and rolled in a 30-footer for par:

Only Phil. Only Phil.
