Swing tweak helps Koepka drub Dufner

AUSTIN, Texas – For the second consecutive day, Brooks Koepka rolled to a convincing victory at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, beating Jason Dufner, 6 and 5.

Koepka, who beat Kevin Kisner on Day 1 by the same margin, was 4 under through 16 holes and has made 12 birdies in 26 holes this week at Austin Country Club.

“I played real well today,” Koepka said. “Putted really well and I feel like my game is in good shape.”

It hasn’t been the best of years for Koepka, who has missed four cuts in his six starts in 2017, but after he failed to advance to the weekend last week at the Arnold Palmer Invitational he found something on the range.

According to his swing coach Claude Harmon III, Koepka’s swing path had become “too neutral” and he wasn’t able to swing to the left and create his desired fade.

“We have been doing lots of stuff to get him to swing more left, like putting a shaft out in front of him so he has to go more left after impact,” Harmon said.

Harmon said there was an interesting moment on Tuesday during Koepka’s practice round with Dustin Johnson when the world No. 1 told him his practice swing was too inside-out. Harmon filmed Johnson’s practice swing and one by Koepka to prove his point.

“Brooks was shocked how his practice swing was everything he was trying not to do,” Harmon said.
