Fowler back inside OWGR top 10 after Honda win

After snapping out of his victory drought, Rickie Fowler is back among the top 10 in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Fowler’s four-shot win at the Honda Classic served as his first PGA Tour victory in nearly 18 months, and his first worldwide title in more than a year. It also helped Fowler move up five spots in the rankings, jumping from 14th to 9th to re-enter the top 10 for the first time since September.

Other notable moves at PGA National included runner-up Gary Woodland, who moved up 11 spots to No. 30, and Martin Kaymer, who is back inside the OWGR top 50 at No. 46 after finishing T-4. Brendan Steele is also inside the top 50 for the first time in his career, ranked No. 50 after a T-14 finish, while Wesley Bryan is also at a new career best, up 19 spots to No. 77 after a second straight T-4.

Darren Fichardt’s victory at the rain-shortened Joburg Open earned him a spot in the Open Championship, and it also moved the South African 121 spots to No. 192.

In addition to Fowler’s rise, the only other change inside the top 10 occurred at No. 4 as Hideki Matsuyama leapfrogged Henrik Stenson despite neither player playing last week. Dustin Johnson remained at world No. 1 for a second straight week, followed by Jason Day, Rory McIlroy, Matsuyama and Stenson. Jordan Spieth remains No. 6, followed by Adam Scott, Justin Thomas, Fowler and Sergio Garcia.

Still sidelined because of back spasms, Tiger Woods dropped seven more spots to No. 711 in the latest rankings.
