DJ shrugs off bee sting, shoots 66 at Riviera

LOS ANGELES – Dustin Johnson has been stung at Riviera Country Club before.

In his last three starts at the Genesis Open he’s finished fourth, tied for second place and second, losing those three events by a combined four strokes. That snake bitten status was turned up a notch on Thursday when he was stung by a bee while preparing to putt on the first green.

Despite the setback, Johnson birdied the next two holes by rolling in 54 feet of putts on his way to an opening 66.

“It didn’t help the golf swing [the bee sting], but I did make two putts,” he said with a smile. “The golf course gave me a little love back after I got the bee sting.”

Johnson has always played well at Riviera, finishing in the top 10 in six of his nine starts at the L.A. stop and missing the cut just twice.

“For some reason I always play well here, but I think it just sets up well to my eye,” Johnson said. “I get a good feel for the golf course.”
